A Duzy of a Time!

The Miller Reunion ended Aug 8 in Minneapolis, and the Dusbabek Reunion started the same day at Cragun's Resort in Gull Lake near Brainard.  3 carloads followed each other northward hoe!  What should have been a 2 1/2 hour ride turned into almost 5....who could resist stopping Cabella's to shop and also Monticello to see Dad's childhood home and visit where his Mom, Dad, and sister Lillian are laid to rest.  We even picnicked at Monticippi on the Mississippi River.

Although the view was pretty, we had to bring out our lawn chairs and picnic sheet.  There weren't any facilities other than the fishing pier!

We had the lower section of the main cabin which Dad, Diane, Jim, Clif, myself, Valerie, and Chloe shared.  It was very spacious and had a wonderful view.  2 bedrooms were off to the left. I will say it was so cold in there that we did light a fire in the fireplace!

It was convenient being located in this cabin because it was the main congregating area!

Pete Dusbabek, Jim Miller, Bobby and I shucking corn for dinner before everyone arrived.

It wasn't long before the deck was a buzz with relatives.  The common questions were, "who are you?" and "who do you belong to?"

Mike and Uncle Jim

Sharon had rented a golf cart for easy transport around the property for the seniors! Sharon taking her dad, niece, and nephew for a ride.

Taking them on the grand tour was a top priority! I took Dad and Nereida for one.

Everywhere you looked, you saw family members socializing!

With such a beautiful setting, I decided that rather than exercising in the fitness room, I would just walk/jog on site.  Clif had asked that I get him up as I was an early riser on this trip (5:45am)!  He wanted to get pictures of the sunrise.  He did a great job catching its progression.  Enjoy!

It was so quick.  It seemed like only 5 minutes and the sun was brightly shining in the sky.  He was glad he didn't procrastinate because believe it or not, Thursday was the only day we had a gorgeous sunrise.  Each morning thereafter was too cloudy.

We didn't waste any time getting into the outdoor activities available.  I went with a group horseback riding.

Guy, Heidi, Debi, Jean, Me
Veronica (or is her name Vanessa?), Desiree, (need help here!) and Logan.

Off on the trail we go.  I was the last horse in front of the guide. Jean and I asked lots of questions about the storm they had had 3 weeks earlier.  The area had thousands of downed trees.  It reminded me of the hurricanes of 2004 in Orlando.  Anyway, she said they tagged all the horses, let them loose, and collected them up the next day.  To their surprise, not 1 horse was injured.  Pretty amazing.

10 minutes into our ride the sprinkles began, and 5 minutes later a steady rain.  We were on the horses for an hour.  This is what we looked like when we got back.

But, it didn't damper our spirits.

Thursday night was the banquet.  88 were in attendance.

As soon as I get the group picture of all of us, I will insert it here.

We played Family Feud as our entertainment here as well.  We had a great time.  I will admit though that it took coaxing to get family members up to participate.  I called "all the Scanlan brothers," "The Bjorgum family", "all Jim and Barb's kids", "all guys named Jim" and yes there were 5 of them!, "the Millennial generation", "all kids under 12".  That was the only way I could get them up there.  But once they were there, they had a great time.

Aunt Barb, Uncle Jim, and the Bjorgums enjoying the entertainment.

After the banquet, it was back to the hospitality cabin for some quiet fun.  A few of us played Skippo.

While others just hung out.

Friday turned out to be the better day weather wise.  Cloudy, but no rain.  We rented a pontoon boat for 4 hours.  This way people could enjoy the ride, and go tubing if they so desired.  We had to get Dad down to the dock though.  He laughed because Chloe was wanting to take him for the ride!

No, all kidding aside, she had to resort to sitting in the middle.

All on board, and kids in tow.

Valerie and Chloe.  Charell and Bobby in the background.

With as often as I asked the kids their names, you would have thought I would remember.  I believe this is Desiree, ?, and Mary.  Anyone??? Help me out here!

Me and Dad.

Dad, Valerie, Chloe, and Jim

I was able to get a brief video of Guy tubing.

Yes, even I got in on the act. Surprisingly the water wasn't as cold as I expected it to be.

Jason even stopped the boat in the middle of the lake so all the kids could jump in for a swim.

While out, the luncheon cruise "Destiny" passed by us.  Several of our family members were on board and waved to us.  I heard later that Scottie was the acting Captain. Go Scottie!

Clif even got a great shot of the bald eagle flying overhead.

Lots of activities took place throughout the day.

From the kids playing on the lake shore...
   Bodie, Piper, and ?

to little ones kayaking...

To Dad's taking their kids fishing...

Chris brought his boat and took a few out fishing too.

to finding balloons to play with...

to canoeing...

...even paddle boarding!  I surprised myself.  No, I didn't fall in.  Jim was for certain I would after a ski boat zoomed by and left quite a hefty wake, but I held my balance!!!!

What kid doesn't like to swing?

And just hanging around, with sticks no less!

Debi and Sharon hanging loose on a downed tree.

Jim had made t-shirts for us to wear at the Friday evening BBQ/Bonfire.

The Bjorgum family sporting the look for us.

Then it was onto games.  I had brought a parachute for the little ones to enjoy.

They loved running under it!

Some played other games.

There was a boat regatta in which contestants had to make their own boats out of cardboard and duct tape.  The one who could row to the buoy and back was the winner.  This wasn't just with our group, but the entire resort was invited to participate.

We are proud to announce that it was one of our family members who won!  GO DESI!!

While we were having fun playing, many were cooking.

Hanging out after dinner awaiting the Grand Finale, Game of all Games.

Mike, Tom, and Pat

Let the festivity begin!  We played a game called The Cheese Ball Toss.  The object of the game was to get as many cheese balls onto your team mate's head as possible within a minute.  It took us a while to get everyone ready.  We had 12 adults as the "targets", and 12 children as the throwers.

We put shower caps on each adult's head followed by a huge clump of shaving cream.  I got to hand it to them that they were all great sports including Aunt LaDon!

Okay, so in order to get the full affect, just watch each of the following 3 clips.  The gathering, the applying of the shaving cream, and the actual game.  Too funny.  Can you figure out who was cheating???

When all was said and done, there was SO much laughter!  Clif was able to get a couple of "trophy" shots.  Actually the winners were tied...Aunt Barb and Jamie.  Susan was out by default.  Hmmm. Don't know why?  Rewatch the third video!

I love how Dad protected his glasses by pulling the shower cap over them!

Aunt Barb you got to look up!  Gravity pulls the shaving cream down!

I heard from one of the observers that Uncle Jim was eating the cheese balls just as fast as they were falling in his lap!  To bad no one was able to catch that in action!

I was so pumped up after this game, dancing was in order.  To my surprise, only Sharon and Chloe opted to dance with me!  Oh, Valerie did join the Conga line, but we only had 3.  What's up with that?

Sharon and I at least had a good time. :)

Well, time to enjoy the campfire.

What a GREAT reunion this was.  Thanks Sharon and crew for doing a fabulous job.  Your hard work paid off.  Love you all!!
